BREAKING VIDEO: Police Taser 91yo Alzheimer’s Patient for Not Going to the Doctor

“…the State is a soulless machine, it can never be weaned from violence to which it owes its very existence.” — Mahatma Gandhi

Minneapolis, KS — A hard to watch video of police tasering a 91-year-old man has just been released showing the nature of Gandhi’s quote above. For refusing to go to a doctor visit, an elderly Alzheimer’s patient was tasered and handcuffed — because police were worried about his well-being.

The incident happened in March, however, the body camera footage was not released until Thursday. In the video, we see an undersheriff with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office deploy his taser on a 91-year-old man with Alzheimer’s at a Minneapolis nursing home because the man wouldn’t get in a car to go to the doctor.

To get this man to a doctor for his health, police assaulted him, placed him in handcuffs, and he had to be carried out on a stretcher. This is why cops are not doctors.

When the incident happened in March, police attempted to mislead the public claiming that the 91-year-old Alzheimer’s patient became violent with officers — so the taser was necessary. However, in the video below, we can clearly see that this is not the case.

What the video does show is a stubborn elderly man who simply does not want to go the doctor. Instead of simply waiting him out, or letting him go to sleep, or employing any of the endless possibilities of non-violent solutions, cops waited only minutes before resulting to violence.

In the video, the man’s only ‘violence’ was when he swatted at the officer hands as they attempt to grab him. When he gets up and tries to walk away, the hero cop deployed a taser to his back, immediately rendering him incapacitated.

“It’s easy for us as citizens to sit back and watch that and be taken aback by that. It’s difficult to watch,” Joe Schillaci, a former law enforcement officer explained to KWCH before making an appalling attempt to justify such despicable actions against a 91-year-old man.

When trying to justify the use of a taser, Schillaci noted that if the cops would have been more physical in their confrontation, the elderly man could have caused a more serious injury.

“…It most definitely with his age, would have caused some pretty good injury,” Schillaci says. “They deploy a taser and incapacitate him immediately.”

However, according to the man’s family, the use of a taser led to their beloved grandfather’s death just a short time later.

According to KWCH, the 91-year-old man’s family say the handcuffs broke his wrist and they believe this incident weakened his heart and led to his death two months later.

The Ottawa County Sheriff, according to KWCH, is out of the office this week and told us he was unavailable to speak on camera. He said he thinks the investigation is complete, but needs to check his reports.

What this case illustrates is the misguided training police are receiving in modern day America. When your only tool is a hammer, everything, including 91-year-old Alzheimer’s patients, start to look like nails.

Just about the time you think cops behavior cannot get worse…and they get away with it. I would be suing the sh*t out of that police department.

    • Joel W

Fuck suing. Rabid dogs get put down. And if that was my family member, I would gladly do life over this shit. Pure fucking demonic behavior. And these cowards wonder why they are getting gunned down more often lately.

I blocked him an hour ago but maybe it only blocks him on my computer. Based on when your comment was made, looks like the ahole is still posting.

    • skyp0ckets

seriously? You really think this kind of violence just started to occur in the past 8 years? Your comment has nothing to do with anything but shows your inability to stay on a topic and speak like an adult. Childish name calling.

      • QV3

Well, I am watching Trey Gowdy take Susan Rice apart for her lies regarding BENGHAZI.
You must approve Obama and Killery having blood of the 4 on their hands.

        • skyp0ckets

You are making this into something it isn’t. I’m not a fan of Obama or Hillary (yes, grown ups CAN call her by her proper name and not refer to Obama with a racial slur) just because violence at the hands of cops isn’t new with the Obama administration. Your logic is impossible to follow.

          • QV3

My privilege to call anyone what I want. If uncomfortable, piss off. And your comment means nichts insofar as I am concerned. Your right to utter nonsense.

          • skyp0ckets

sure you can call anyone what you want, but the consequences are that people will think you aren’t very mature.

  • Jacki Becker

This is absolutely heartbreaking and disgusting!!! I can not even comprehend why they would consider using a taser on a frail elderly person who could barely walk. He certainly was not a threat to officer safety!!!

    • rnrstar

Cops are such cowards these days that they fear for their lives from a brisk walking 91-year-old man.

  • Travis Schlegel

I was a paramedic for years. I dealt with uncooperative dementia patients on a near daily basis. Not only will I say say with confidence that, 99.99% of the time there is no need to taser one of these patients, but 99.98% of there is absolutely no reason to have police in a nursing home! They are not trained to deal with fragile people and the people there are not committing crimes! Paramedics have every type of resource and restraint we could need to safely manage the combative dementia patient and unless they were armed (God forbid in an Alzheimer’s unit although some moron might argue for it) there is no need for police there.

    • Nishi

Same goes for me. I’ve never not been able to transport a patient. This is just bizarre… and brutal. Next up they might pile on and beat a mother giving birth.

      • Hugh Culliton

      • Travis Schlegel

What? That wasn’t a coherent sentence, let alone thought.

  • TeslaFan

I’m horrified but not surprised. Excuse me while I cry.

    • Elroy Hatfield

  • Alberto

Deploying a taser and handcuffing the 91 year old elderly man was very unnecessary this approach was way over the top. I would get a lawyer and sue the Department, demand the firing of the moron who deployed his taser on the family’s elderly father. I’m pretty damn sure this caused complications to the old mans health which might have contributed to the old mans death.

    • rnrstar

They should also sue the home. That home should be closed down because everyone still there is in mortal danger from those that run the home.

  • Jim Barclay

what kind off fucked up human being does that to an old person let alone anyone….he needs to be shot by the same taser over and over in the balls.

    • Hugh Culliton

If I may be so bold, I think that you’ve got it wrong because you assume that the officer is a completely human with a developed morality or even theory of mind. But these events aren’t conscious actions by an individual, this is the non-conscious, amoral and dead hand of police procedure applied through a human conditioned to be, basically, a robot. The officer “had no choice” because his procedure required him to act in this way. He will probably be merely surprised and puzzled that people are angry at his actions. That someone can exist in such a state of such complete morality hearkens back to a Borg ‘Drone’ from Star Trek, or more cerebral, Hanna Arendt’s conclusions in “Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil”.

  • kookooracharabioso

In my younger years I met many refugees from behind the Iron Curtain. All of them were terrified of the police. Even the children. An encounter with the police was not something that you survived in those nations. They could never believe that the police in the US would ever help them. In recent years we’ve had rulings that LEO’S are not required to know the laws that they are called to enforce. There was even a lawsuit where an applicant was denied the position because it was determined that his IQ was too high. There are many accounts of officers making problems for those who would or who have – filmed their actions. Laws have been proposed to make filming police illegal. They are the employees of the taxpayers or so we are lead to believe but their separate retirement system and immunity from salary slices tells a different truth. Strange days that we are learning to fear our police just as those from extremely oppressive nations have always been. I want to support our LEO’S but they make it difficult.

    • Hugh Culliton

Indeed. I’m old enough to have seen the change in American policing over the last 20 years. It parallels the exclusion of the citizen from American public life. I fear that these are just symptoms of a deeper malaise.

  • Paul Agostini

Why hasn’t the name and location of the nursing home been made public? People have a right to know that the place their elderly parents live in resort to calling the police to take someone to the doctor.

    • ThatGuyJohn

Why hasn’t the name and location of the pigs who did this been made public? They deserve to be ambushed and killed since that’s the only way corrupt pigs can be dealt with. Their own will hide em so it’s up to us to take care of the problem with a final solution. Man I hope these pigs are doxxed and subsequently crippled for life or just killed.

    • Elroy Hatfield

  • Don Unruh

Fucking cops. Only one way this behavior will change.

  • Butch Taylor

Unfortunately the family of this dangerous out of control life threatening 91 year old death machine are probably too meek to secure justice for this man’s murder. The Flunky Eyewitness News Personal Protection expert Joe Schillaci and the Ottawa County Sheriff have surely white washed this murder to the point that they can now convince the sheeple public and the court that Alzheimer’s patient or not, this man was wanted in 6 other states for life threatening assaults on nursing home staff and patients. The only justice the family will receive is if they single out the murderer and take it for themselves.

    • Hugh Culliton

In about 16 hours there’ll be a police press release that the senior’s dementia was being treated with – gasp! – marijuana. Therefore he was actually a super-human dangerous felon and we should all just be grateful that the officer went above and beyond the call of duty and risked his life in such an heroic way rather than just shooting the man several times as “procedure” would have him due. By gar, the lad probably has a citation coming that’ll look great on the “I-love-me” wall!

      • cptplanet

I was just waiting for the punchline to this whole thing. Unsurprising they chose marijuana as the “real” culprit, as always.

  • Steve S.

I hope the comets arrive soon.

  • David Hall

The stupid pricks were just standing there looking like a bunch of owls. Have to be complete idiots to call the cops for that. They know all cops are cowards and pussies. The POS thug done that to my Father, he would have been tortured before I put a slug through his pea brain and gladly would do the time. When there is no worse cops somehow make it worse. That is one of the most insane things I have ever seen, low life scumbags do to a human being. Poor old guy! To go to a Doctor appointment! Are you serious?. That care giver home or whatever the fuck it is, should be shut down.

    • Graham Harding

      Graham Harding see
the police in america are wankers tased a 91 year old man need to be
sacked oh and broke his wrist and he died a couple of months later shame
on you OFFICER SHAME ON YOU lets hope you never have to go in a nursing
      home shit head

  • LawrenceNeal

The SA can only enforce statutes. What was the statute requiring the victim to go to the doctor? Tasers may not be immediately lethal, although the SA have killed people in the immediate moment by over using them, but they do lead to cardiac failure within 5 years, in some cases.

  • Hugh Culliton

The mind reels. This is a terrifying display of criminal incompetence. Tasers are a LESS lethal weapon – not NON-lethal. When you use them on very ill, weak, young, or elderly people, there’s a serious possibility that you will kill them. The officer must have understood this from his training. If this isn’t covered in the training or noted as a warning by the manufacturer, then Taser’s about to be destroyed by class action suits.

  • doucyet

Tasering the elderly and the incapacitated, shooting small children with toy guns and shooting harmless dogs is what some of your police get off on. Faced with a real threat they piss themselves and run………

  • Frank Lin

man FUCK THESE POLICE. the family should sue the fuck out of this PD and get paid $$$$. fucking psychopath ass cops. tazing an old man. this is so bullshit i’m pissed.

  • Blaine

Does not one have the right to refuse medical treatment? Is not this man’s stay in the home paid for? Not only illegal, but unnecessary, unethical and just plain wrong.

These cops need to not only lose their job but be prosecuted – are we left with no rights or recourse?!

  • Alberto Minoleta

    More cowardly cops.

  • cptplanet

Rabid animals should be put to sleep. Not given guns and the authority to torture Alzheimer’s patients.

  • Ausmboomer

Those cops are disgusting animals. Why are cops there in the first place? Shouldn’t a medical agency be there with experience in handling dementia patients? This is just below the belt. We have become a society of hatred and idiots! We have no compassion anymore. Well, at least some of us.

  • Mr. Jon

You white people wanted a super-aggressive police force… Well, this is what you get.

    • Free_Willey

That opening line always kills me… “You white people”. No racism there. /s

  • Stephen Geiger

Both these cops should be handcuffed to a light pole and tasered repeatedly so they know how it feels.

  • GTElmore

“When the only tool you bring to the job is a hammer, it’s amazing how sooner-or-later all the problems you encounter start looking like nails.” And I’m not talking about anything hanging on their belts. I’m talking about their hearts and minds. As anyone who knows ANYTHING about dealing with the elderly, especially those with any form of dementia, knows, this was murder — point blank – straight up. If you want those in your care to live — you’d better think twice about calling the police.

  • Deborah Morris Coleman

WHAT? NOT on a horrible day! This is an outrage! 91? NO!

  • The laser triggering cop should be handcuffed in Jail and they will carry him out in a stretcher soon!

  • William L

I live in the town this happened in. That guy is a jerk who also sits on the city council and abused his authority to intimidate me into removing a video of him potentially violating KOMA. He still holds his position as undersheriff and council member.

Please do not judge the rest of the citizens by the actions of this one asshole.

  • Bob Btme

Kansas and Oklahoma seem to be one of the most primitive, barbaric places on Earth, I’d be afraid to even pass through that Nazi-like territory

  • Ed

When I’m 90 and in a home, I will have my carry piece ready for these bastards!

  • FiuToYou

I’m surprised they didn’t come in the ‘Old Age Home’ with guns blazing. People wonder why police are being targeted in America! Here’s one reason!

  • Randy

I understand that there are good police officers and we need police officers. However, with incidents like this, I believe the only way to mitigate the risk of bad officers stepping across the line of human dignity, is to set an example through harsh punishment. Lets give the hero cop that used the taser 25 years. I know it’s a loss for his family but I’m sure they can do much better. Once the news gets out to the rest of the forces I’m pretty sure they will think twice about exercising their “BIG MAN” complex attitude toward any human being.

  • Trumplovesyou

All cops are corrupt . There are no good ones because if they were good they would denounce the jackasses like the pukes in this video.Since they do not and they condone and go along with these types of behaviors they are just as bad.

  • ThatGuyJohn

The whole batch of pigs deserve to be murdered. Feet first into a woodchipper for a start, with pauses for salt and rubbing alcohol sprays on the exposed meat. Fuck all pigs everywhere, I hope We the People rise up against em and destroy the entire lot.

  • Kim

I am beyond appalled at this. I don’t know the whole story however, I didn’t see one nursing staff attempting to help this gentleman. What the police officers did was completely inhumane and wrong. I have worked with Alzheimer’s patients for years and have NEVER seen this kind of abuse before!!! They should be ashamed of themselves. A lot of times all one has to do is giving it a break for a few minutes reapproach and all is good. But to terrorize a 91 yr old with Alzheimer’s? Unbelievable.

  • Ibcamn

cops should never be called for this, ever………….but the biggest problem is the people who call the cops….these people are sheeple that listen to the elitist that tell them,”see something say something”,just like the nazi’s did back in germany during the war, they told their own people, say something if something isn’t right[or we will take you]and nowdays its the same here, they tell people to ”just call the police for help”and the idiots baught it…they call cops, and people usually die,but some get this tortue instead, because someone called the cops to show up and hurt these people,in my book, the people that call are just as much at fault for this as the corrupt cops are………………one old man and no one thinks they can control him,WTF,these people, all these people need re-training in their jobs….cops are out to just kill you and they believe they are better than you, cops are worthless and just rapists and murderers, nothing more.

  • They eliminated his need to go to the doctor by brutalizing him and killing him. That’s some mighty fine service and protection right there.

  • Steve Rusk

Violence and death, it’s what they are trained to inflict and it’s obvious from these videos just how much they enjoy doing it.
