VIDEO: “I want my mommy!” Cop Shoots into Van Full of Kids, Kills Their Unarmed Dad

Strongsville, OH — A father of three is dead, and his three children are traumatized for life after watching a Strongsville police officer shoot and kill him. Roy Evans Jr. was unarmed when police killed him during a traffic stop as his children, and their mother watched in utter horror. The resultant dashcam video is troubling, to say the least.

During the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 7, a Strongsville police officer attempted to pull over the family’s van for a traffic violation. Evans then made the extremely poor decision of not stopping.

For the next 14 minutes, Evans, with his family in the van, would lead police on a chase until they deployed spike strips to stop the van. The mother of the children and Evans’ girlfriend, Amanda Pauly explained to police that she attempted to get him to stop. She would later tell Fox 8 news that Evans, an ex-convict, said that he didn’t want to go back to jail.

When police finally disabled the vehicle, an officer can be heard demanding Evans show his hands before a gunshot rings out and a dispatcher says, “shots fired.”

The officer approached the van and shot Evans in the chest, Pauley told Fox 8.

A single round penetrated Evans’ chest, and he died in the front seat of the van.

“Please don’t let him die,” Pauly pleads with police as they pull her from the van and put her in handcuffs. Meanwhile, the children sitting in the back of the van are in sheer panic.

One of the small children in the van repeated, “I want my mommy!” after watching his unarmed father be blown away by an officer.

After the shooting, police tore apart the van in an attempt to find something they could use to justify Evans’ death. However, no weapons were recovered.

Now, eleven days after the shooting, police have only released dashcam footage from a cruiser at least four cars behind the other units which more likely than not have a very clear portrayal of what went down. The department has also chosen to keep the officer’s name who fired the shot secret as well.

According to cleveland.com, Jill Del Greco, spokeswoman for the Ohio Attorney General Office’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation later said the agency is exploring the possibility that the van itself was used as a weapon. However, given the fact that the vehicle had been disabled with spike strips, the notion of using it as a weapon is unlikely.

Del Greco told cleveland.com that the investigation would examine what provoked the officer to fire his weapon.

This case comes on the heels of officer Derrick Stafford’s trial starting this week for a hauntingly similar stop that was also caught on video. Stafford and another officer, Norris Greenhouse Jr. opened fire on an unarmed father, Christopher Few. However, in that case, the father lived and the 6-year-old boy inside the vehicle, Jeremy Mardis did not.

Police officers fearing for their lives over unarmed people in vehicles is an all too common and tragic reality. Sadly, these children will now all grow up with the memory of their daddy being blown away in front of them by a person, who they are told, ‘protects society.’

    I can’t fight these people alone.PLEASE HELP !

    • 17

We’re well past the “fight” stage. That fight’s already lost. We’re also well past the “justice” stage. All that remains is the “revenge” phase. Let them know every chance you get that they should “fear for their lives”, as well as the lives of their loved ones, just as we do. Until they get it that we don’t want them going home at the end of the day, nothing will change.

      • Gary Smith

I don’t even think it’ll take this much. But it will take people who are willing to defend themselves and their lives against thugs. If someone is intent on killing me, do I let them if they’re wearing a costume and a badge? It makes no sense at all. I’m not going to ask permission to defend myself or my family, I’m just going to do it. When enough people are willing to defend themselves, we’ll have change.

I cut and pasted this video, with my comments to many media outlets in Ohio. although I find it very difficult to even speak about this heinous and saddening tragedy.. I have also lead the media attack against the Governor of Ohio. I am a multiple police abuse survivor myself. I was born on the wrong side of enemy lines. There is very little they have not done to me already. Beatings. torture falsely imprisoned for years, along with several failed attempts by law enforcement to take my life..l will continue to resist. As soon as I can get my web sites activated then I can properly fund an attack (legally) these despots who wear badges. Lawyers bad media exposure; partitions, law suits etc. I will fight them with anything and everything I have. It is obvious they wish an armed attack, and deserve it, but I am still of the opinion that these Authoritarians can be brought down by reform and non-violent measures. There is a chain of command within the police. Our problem is to find the easy links to break. This is not a futile attempt.

  • Alberto

People the police are not here for you stop with the illusion. The police are government employees to protect business, in force the states law, implement fines, they’re given authority over the people like sheep. That’s why the police don’t give a shit, the citizens are either stupid, blind or both to allow this abuse to continue. Go to your elected officials open your mouth and speak out your frustration so they know this is out control. Wtf people do nothing then don’t complain.

    • Fernesque Golan

Alberto — Finally, someone who really understands the purpose of the police. The concept of police started in England hundreds of years ago. We all heard of the Sheriff of Nottingham whose task it was to capture and kill Robin Hood. The Sheriff was there to protect the King’s assets from poachers. From there, the concept caught on and has morphed into our modern day police forces whose main objectives are still the same as the Sheriff of Nottingham — now, literally, on steroids.

Our police forces have become semi-autonomous entities that can do what they want, knowing that the corrupt system which they protect will stand behind them. It just wasn’t 007 who was given a license to kill, it was every stinking creep who was pinned a tin star on their blue shirt (which really should be a brown shirt). This is why there are no good cops because when push comes to shove, it is you that will catch the bullet. Their oath binds them not to the people, but to the legal Mafioso that steals money from working people to pay for their own oppression. Cops are like enemy soldiers, fighting for the wrong side.

What the people need is another Robin Hood to take on the corrupt institution we call the police.

  • police state

the excuse of I feared for my life.is just a cover all to get. away with any unlawful murder. And that’s what it comes down to, legalized MURDER by police officers. Even the Military during war would not get away with shooting an unarmed civilian. That would be a war CRIME,,Punishable by life in prison.

  • Domina Elle

Whoops! Yet another privilege card expired! How many times do I post this here? Did so just yesterday in fact. Thought his skin color was supposed to prevent this from happening?! Well it DOES NOT. Just as profiling isn’t merely based on skin color either. The problem with cops and abuse of their authority isn’t centered in racism. Not even close. The problem is centered in CORRUPTION and the lack of accountability for these state sanctioned thugs.

    • TOPDOG1

I would use the word:responsibility; and that points directly at the prosecutors who refuse to charge them with their crimes and who themselves are accomplices to police abuses.

    • canucanoe2

Then why are blacks 2.5 times more likely than whites are to be killed by police?.

“As The Post noted in a new analysis published last week, that means black Americans are 2.5 times as likely as white Americans to be shot and killed by police officers.”

“U.S. police officers have shot and killed the exact same number of unarmed white people as they have unarmed black people: 50 each. But because the white population is approximately five times larger than the black population, that means unarmed black Americans were five times as likely as unarmed white Americans to be shot and killed by a police officer.”

All cops are violent, and cowardly, but they are more so with blacks. It’s a fact!

      https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2016/07/11/arent-more-white-people-than-black-people-killed-by-police-yes-but-no/?utm_term=.2c1ef42a83a3

  • 174thandvyse

Oh, God, but I despise cops!

  • David Hall

Cops are the lowest of the low in society. They are paid trigger happy assassins that will go home at night if they have to murder 2 dozens families to do it. The corruption runs the gamut, Judges, D.A.’s, corrections, Jailers, Prisons, Thugs in blue. You see one little guy unarmed and within minutes there are 30 thugs wailing on the poor guy. They really look like a pack of Wolves. Cops are the worst cowards I have ever seen. Most are Phycopaths & sociopaths and the rest are uneducated, poorly trained low IQ scumbags.

  • Ed

We can only hope these children grow up and get a good education so they can finish the story! Title: You killed my daddy!

  • Ed

All Cops can’t keep saying they “Feared for their Life” to justify shooting someone. We must let a jury of their peers decide in each and every case, the prosecutors will have to work to Free a Cop! I can’t see how we let Prosecutors decide without a legal explanation!

    • DavidH

We won’t have juries decide justification if prosecutors won’t prosecute.

  • Guy

Simply amazing to me, that a dad who has a history like this, can choose to not only make an incredibly bad and selfish decision to not only risk his own life, but can do so to the mother of his children and his kid’s too, all for *I Don’t Want To Go Back To Jail.” How, or what way did he think this was going to end up, by running from the cop’s 14 mineuts ? Not good is for damn sure !

Whether you think cops are heroes or the scum of the earth, it dosen’t matter, because at the end of the day, you will lose, no matter if you are armed to the teeth or simply with a pencil ! It is their lives they are worried about, not your’s, your kids, you dog or goldfish ! The possibility of you winding up dead, because you twitched, is really high, and if you are a minority it’s even higher !

So when I read stories like this, I just think why, for what, and the waist, that some Dad’s kids is now going to grow without a father ! All because some dumb schmuck figured he could outrun the police !

    • canucanoe2

rEALLY? iT’S NOT BECAUSE SOME COWARDLY, BLOOD LUSTING COP SHOT HIM FOR NO GOOD REASON?

      • Guy

I am no cop defender, except to defend the ones who have a job to do and go about it honorably and do it professionally, just like you or me, or the plummer down the street would !

As I said, if you want to call all cop’s low life scum, that’s your business, not mine. So in this case I will not debate you, seeing no point in it, your mind is closed and apparently allready made up ! Have a nice day, Sparky !

        • Peaceunity

A 14 minute car chase should never equal a death sentence. These people are suppose to be professionals. There are many ways to diffuse a situation short of killing someone. Its becoming a tad bit ridiculous. Perhaps a littlle education and less testosterone would be appropriate.

          • Guy

You got that right, except the part about education and testosterone ! I think in this case and many, many more similar to this one. It’s all about too much training and over amped on testosterone that is the leading cause of cops going nut’s, and being afraid of everything ! As the result of being taught too be afraid of shadows, us and convinced that, they got to pull out the gun to solve all problems they come across!

    • DavidH

The man’s death did NOT occur “All because some dumb schmuck figured he could outrun the police !” It happened because some schmuck cop wanted to teach him a lesson for daring to try to get away. Once he was stopped he was no longer running. And we all know that failing to kowtow to “authority” is a capitol offense.

      • Guy

So you say huh ! So if he has not gone on a 14 minute car ride, with the cops after him and when stopped, he had just sat there doing what the cops demanded, He would still be alive and kicking today !? No nail strips, no high speed chase and no fearful cop’s.
Seems reasonable dosen’t it !? So all of thouse guys getting blown away by cops, who are just standing there with their hands in there pockets or raised, or over their heads, must have deserved it too in some way ! Because that reason enough I suppose, to get blown out of your shoes !?

        • DavidH

No, if he had just sat there doing what the cops demanded he would, at the very least, have been dragged out of the car and either been beaten nearly to death or, more likely, killed on the spot because “he went for my gun”, or “i feared for my life (when I was kneeling on his neck on the ground and he wouldn’t stop struggling).”

  • Luc

“I feared for my life” the magic phrase cops use to get away with murder. Try using that as a civilian if you kill someone that is actually armed. Laws for us, laws for them.

  • Kountry Bumpkin

Does anybody else have a picture of Mr. Rogers and Captain Kangaroo on the right hand side of their screen, says only 1 in 10 people can identify them from the screen shot…… man that makes me feel old.

  • bojimbo26

Cops : ” You will do as I say or I will kill you ” . New form of Donnys Death Panels .

  • Robert Knox

Guy doesn’t pull over, Guy doesn’t show hands when ordered guy gets shot.

Call me a police sympathizer but this guy could of just listened. If hes evading the law he could be a felon, or a dangerous criminal then he’s not gonna show his hands after he tries to run. What would you think? I would think he’s probably got a gun. Granted he didn’t. police have only a few seconds to determine weather someone is going to be a threat to their life, or not. Maybe some of you who are calling cops murderers are like perfect judge of character, and you can tell if someone you don’t know who just ran from you, and is not being complaint isn’t getting ready to pull up a weapon, and murder you. You should just join the police force if you think your perfect, and can make the right decisions in split seconds.

    • canucanoe2

Cops don’t even make the top ten most dangerous jobs list. That’s right. A garbageman is 2.5 times more likely to get killed on the job than a cop is. My job in xconstruction is more dangerous than a cop’s job is.

Why don’t you go suck another cowardly cop’s dick?

    • DavidH

Failure to comply is not a capitol offense. Teaching the proper handling of weapons is that you never draw your gun unless you intend to use it and using it must eliminate the target. When an “officer of the law” approaches a vehicle with his gun drawn he is predisposed to use it with lethal results, regardless of the circumstances It makes no difference whether you’re innocent or guilty, once the gun is out you’re as good as dead. Shoot first and make up excuses to cover your ass afterwards is the mantra.

    • DavidH

“this guy could of just listened” Sure, and he might have been deaf (a handicap doesn’t preclude getting a driver’s license) or someone for whom English isn’t his primary language and didn’t understand what was being said or, for that matter may have been drunk or high and simply didn’t react quick enough. So it may have taken more than the ” few seconds to determine weather someone is going to be a threat to their life”. If you’re in a stressful situation and you have people yelling and pointing guns at you, even you would take more than a few seconds to process what’s happening and what you have to do next.

We don’t see the whole story here but other videos are clear that often there are multiple cops yelling “get out of the car”, “let me see your hands”, “get on the ground”, “don’t move” all at the same time. which of those commands do you follow? If you’re obeying the commands to “show…hands” and “don’t move”, how do you “get out of the car” without moving your hands out of sight to pull the door handle? Once you do that are they justified in shooting you? Even if you’re following the commands you can wind up getting killed.

  • canucanoe2

What provoked the cop to shoot? Cowardice!
