barbers shop shootingWashington, DC – A Washington D.C. police officer shot an innocent bystander this week, while chasing a group of armed robbery suspects.

The officer was reportedly the only one to fire shots during the chase, and sadly one stray bullet went through the wall of a nearby barbershop and hit an innocent person inside. The innocent bystander was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the hip, but unfortunately very few details about his condition are being made public.

The suspects had reportedly committed an armed robbery, but the carelessness exhibited in this situation is bringing deeper question to how quickly police officers respond to situations with deadly force.

Witnesses are afraid to speak up on the case, but police say that the suspects robbed a nearby storefront and escaped in a vehicle. The officers say that they chased the car for roughly 3 blocks until the suspects got stuck in traffic and ran away on foot. This is where the details of the case become contentious due to the lack of eyewitnesses.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said that one of the suspects had a “handgun in his hand and ran in the direction of another incoming police officer.”

However, this version of events has yet to be confirmed by anyone outside of the police station.

That is allegedly when the officer, obviously unconscious of his surroundings, decided to open fire on the suspect, but instead hit an innocent victim.

The incident also occurred within range of a school.

This incident in DC of police shooting bystanders is not isolated. In New York City, the NYPD shot at the unarmed Glenn Broadnax, 35, an emotionally unstable man, who was walking near traffic. Multiple innocent bystanders were hit. Four months after police shot the innocent bystanders, the city charged Broadnax, who didn’t even have a gun, with the shooting.

Last August police were responding to a disturbance at an Orlando bar. When they showed up they fired several shots at the suspect, Kody Roach, who was outside of the bar. One of the bullets fired by police missed Roach, went through the bar door and struck and killed 22-year-old, Maria Fernada Godinez. Roach is being charged with her murder.

It is highly likely that police will use the same legal methods to charge the three suspects in D.C. with the shooting of the person inside the barber shop.
