Media Silent as Obama Signs ‘US Ministry of Truth’ Law to Fund Propaganda Aimed at Americans

Washington, D.C. – Last week, with Americans busy preparing for the holidays and mostly oblivious to the happenings within the halls of power, President Obama quietly signed 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) into law, which authorizes $611 billion in military spending for 2017.

In a statement, Obama said that:

Today, I have signed into law S. 2943, the “National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017.” This Act authorizes fiscal year 2017 appropriations principally for the Department of Defense and for Department of Energy national security programs, provides vital benefits for military personnel and their families, and includes authorities to facilitate ongoing operations around the globe. It continues many critical authorizations necessary to ensure that we are able to sustain our momentum in countering the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and to reassure our European allies, as well as many new authorizations that, among other things, provide the Departments of Defense and Energy more flexibility in countering cyber-attacks and our adversaries’ use of unmanned aerial vehicles.”

And while the passage of the NDAA is an annual event that is not surprising in itself, some of the provisions often hidden within the defense-spending bill can be – such as the provision providing for indefinite detention of American citizens without trial or charge, which was included in the 2012 NDAA.

This year was no exception.

This year’s most insidious NDAA provision, called the Countering Foreign Propaganda and Disinformation Act of 2016, essentially creates a de facto U.S. Ministry of Truth. The corporate mainstream media, aside from cursory reporting on the passage of the defense-spending bill, has generally failed to report on the implications resulting from the included provisions as to keep Americans in the dark about the Information War being waged on them by their own government.

According to a report by Zero Hedge:

As we reported in early June, “a bill to implement the U.S.’ very own de facto Ministry of Truth had been quietly introduced in Congress. As with any legislation attempting to dodge the public spotlight the Countering Foreign Propaganda and Disinformation Act of 2016 marks a further curtailment of press freedom and another avenue to stultify avenues of accurate information. Introduced by Congressmen Adam Kinzinger and Ted Lieu, H.R. 5181 seeks a “whole-government approach without the bureaucratic restrictions” to counter “foreign disinformation and manipulation,” which they believe threaten the world’s “security and stability.”

Also called the Countering Information Warfare Act of 2016 (S. 2692), when introduced in March by Sen. Rob Portman, the legislation represents a dramatic return to Cold War-era government propaganda battle.

H.R. 5181 would task the Secretary of State with coordinating the Secretary of Defense, the Director of National Intelligence, and the Broadcasting Board of Governors to “establish a Center for Information Analysis and Response,” which will pinpoint sources of disinformation, analyze data, and — in true dystopic manner — ‘develop and disseminate’ “fact-based narratives” to counter effrontery propaganda.

Interestingly, this reveals that before the discredited mainstream media began regularly droning about “fake news/Russian propaganda”, as a means of gaining more informational control and regaining their positions as informational gatekeepers – which has been essentially destroyed with the advent of social media – the U.S. government was already strategizing a legally underpinned crackdown on any news that dissents from the ‘official’ government line as being “fake news.”

Thus, with discredited media organizations like CNN and the Washington Post working to propagandize and indoctrinate the American public into believing that dissent equates to “Russian Propaganda” or “fake news,” the stage is set for the government to crack down on any news outlets that don’t stick to the standards of the newly created U.S. Ministry of Truth as being labeled “foreign propaganda.”

In other words, the government will now be the arbiter of truth, backed by the force of the law. And while the virtual whole of mainstream media has refused to cover this nefarious provision, one courageous mainstream journalist, Ben Swann, is working to expose the truth – watch below.

At first I must admit that I was concerned about this story. But the further you get into the article you can clearly see an agenda building. Then it finishes off with the Ben Swann promotion. Do a little research on him and you’ll find a Sandy hook conspiracy nut. Need I say more?

    • Nobody
    • TechGump

Yes, you need say a lot more than irrelevant, opinionated banter should you desire to be taken with a shred of credibility, something Swann has earned.

      • Mike Nadonly

So let me get this straight, you believe that the government has video tape of other shooters at Sandy hook and the movie theater in Colorado? Or perhaps your way out there in conspiracy land and you don’t believe that these shootings occurred at all?

        • TechGump

What does a Colorado movie theater shooting have to do with this? Nothing.
What does Sandy Hook have to do with the authenticity of this report? Nothing.
Scapegoating demands for facts isn’t sufficent.

As for what I believe, I believe good journalists (and citizens) should alway be asking for more facts… and always question the Government narrative. But my beliefs aren’t relevant here, nor will they prove your point (if you even really have one).

          • Mike Nadonly

Well I agree that nobody should ever take what the government says as the truth until you verify it. If you click on the link up above by the person named( nobody) you will find a short bio of Ben Swann. In that bio you will find his questioning or conspiracies about Sandy hook and the Colorado move theater shootings. It’s about credibility with me, and if everything is a conspiracy theory you’ve kinda lost credibility with me. Comprehend?

          • Richard Zazanis

Hey Mike, here’s a crazy thought. How about you fact check for yourself and then you don’t have to rely on any one source. Trust facts not sources. Also, if you dismiss anyone who talks too much about conspiracies than you are doing yourself a disservice. Wouldn’t you agree that government corruption is the biggest problem facing our country? How is it that you think corruption operates? Planning everything legally and out in the open? The other option is conspiracy. If you are talking about government corruption you are inherently going to discuss conspiracy theories.

          • Mike Nadonly

Well I kinda disagree with you about corruption in the government. No I’m not saying that it doesn’t exist. But both parties have basically passed laws that make what should be illegal legal. And you could add the supreme court to that list to . CITIZENS UNITED is nothing more than legal bribery. As far as conspiracy theories if you have some facts to at least start with sure then you look into it. But when people say that the world is flat, should those people be taken seriously? Same thing with Sandy hook if Ben Swann thinks that there was more than one person all he has to do is ask one of the teachers, you don’t start asking for video tape that probably never existed.

        • tamajam10

Mike, there is a reason why ‘the government’ likes to throw around the term ‘conspiracy theory’. What better way to cloak your actions than by making people look ‘crazy’ for questioning them? Look away, folks, nothing to see here.

As the others said, we need to do our own fact checking – that means not discrediting someone simply because you question what they have to say or what they stand for. It means asking the hard questions and daring to investigate sources you may be opposed to….initially. It’s truly the only way to develop a well-informed, objective viewpoint. Trust me, if you dig deep enough, you may find that you are as ‘crazy’ as the some of the rest of us here. The Truth can be very ugly, and we are obligated to expose it by any means possible – even if it’s a simple post. Stay informed. Stay awake.

P.S. As far as Sandy Hook goes, you can at least begin by looking into what happened to the second ‘suspect’…..the one that was wearing army fatigues and captured by the police, which was captured on live tv by a helicopter news crew. It’s not strange that the MSM then said nothing about this man…not even a name?!
FIrst, look up cognitive dissonance. Then, while keeping your mind open, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxTafqejV6k

          • Mike Nadonly

Well it took me about 3 minutes to find out who was in the woods at Sandy hook. The guy that you were worried about in the camouflage ,was a off duty tactical police officer from a nearby town. The other guy is Chris Manfredonia he’s the father of one of the children that went to school there. Yes I to believe that the government does shit all the time that could be considered a conspiracy. What I’m also saying is that you should spend your time looking for legitimate conspiracies.

          • tamajam10

That’s good, now keep asking the questions….and don’t classify anything as ‘legitimate’ or ‘illegitimate’ as you do.

          • Mike Nadonly

The only reason that I classify things as legitimate or not is because of two questions. What would be the end goal of the conspiracy ? If the conspiracy happened to be true how would it affect me? Example Sandy hook, supposedly that conspiracy was to confiscate everybody’s guns. Utter nonsense why? It’s clearly unconstitutional for starters. Secondly even if somehow you managed to get a constitutional amendment, the United States government doesn’t have enough people to go house to house to confiscate the guns. And obviously when they did start trying to confiscate many people would die. On the other hand if we start getting false intelligence reports that Iran is getting ready to nuke us so now we need to put boots on the ground and go to war again. That’s the kind of conspiracy that affects us all.

          • tamajam10

I respect your opinion; but, you just defied your own logic. You did what you have been conditioned to do: Asked how certain events affected ‘you’….pretty much the devil’s mindset…..and totally opposite what Jesus taught…brotherhood (‘do unto others’).
You see, the ONLY way to get around the Constitution is to convince the masses that we should ignore it. And, the ONLY way to do that is to convince the masses that there is a boogey man out there that requires ‘the government’ to protect them. How to do that? Incrementally. If he were around, you could just ask Hitler. It worked wonderfully for him…just ask his victims.

          • Mike Nadonly

Well I’m going to have to respectfully disagree with you. First off I base my life on verifiable facts. Therefore I’m not religious at all. Secondly I don’t know what your talking about getting around the constitution, in my opinion the constitution is there to protect us from the government. And I’m also baffled by your boogeyman comment. There are very few things that I’m afraid of terrorism, socialism are just words to get the masses emotionally charged. I’m thinking that your Hitler comment was directed at gun control? So where does it end , at what point do you think that maybe the government shouldn’t let the public purchase that weapon? Maybe we should all have 50mm fully automatic machine guns. And then what do we arm our police officers with? Don’t you see how ridiculous that is? We’re pushing a arms race within our own borders, and then we wonder why we lead the world in killing each other.

    • Asylumsix

There’s no conspiracy, Sandy Hook was propaganda to disarm American citizens….

      • Mike Nadonly

Alrighty Mr. ROCKET SCIENTIST, If Sandy hook was a conspiracy to take away every body’s guns then why didn’t they take anyone’s guns away? I’m going to be honest with you it’s conspiracy nuts like you that are going to be the downfall of America. If your thoughts and decisions are not based in reality your not being a good American. For Christ sake it says it in the constitution. A well informed public is necessary to keep the republic.

        • Asylumsix

You’re words hold no weight with me… Do yourself a favor and wake up please 🙂

Didn’t say it was a successful effort but a effort none the less…

Nice move with the misdirection though.. /clap clap

          • Mike Nadonly

1#Confiscating guns would require a constitutional amendment that is a fact. Getting a constitutional amendment to confiscate guns would be virtually impossible. Another fact. 2# The United States government doesn’t have enough people to go house to house to confiscate the guns. That’s another fact. I’m not telling you what to worry about I’m just suggesting that you worry about things that are possible.

          • Asylumsix
          • Mike Nadonly

I just don’t understand your point. Yes Diane Feinstein introduces a bill that would make it illegal to purchase a specific gun. A gun that was previously illegal to purchase until sometime around 2001. The bill also didn’t say anything about confiscating anybody’s guns. And besides all that the bill did not become a law. So what is your point?

Here is an example of corruption. My younger brother who served with the military was diagnosed with GBM the worst of brain cancers. He read up on cannabis and after many months of chemo/radiation and decided to stop. 2 years later on a vegan diet, no sugars and 2 surgeries. All the while his cancer clinic told him chemo the only way to go..which is funny as there are no survivors and if they are …it was never their way. My brother is still alive and doing well still rides his harley. Reagan had cancer we didn’t find out until later..he went to germany.. I bet he didn’t get chemo. tx thefreethoughtproject.com we are listening..
