This week, in South Los Angeles, a police vehicle hit a naked man who was laying on the side of the street.  It was reported that the man was likely in his 50’s or 60’s.

The officer was allegedly responding to calls that were made to the police department about a naked man who was running through the streets near Hillcrest Drive and West Adams Boulevard.  The calls were made around  10:20 p.m. on Sunday and the officers responded within the hour, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

For some reason still unknown, the unnamed man was laying on the side of the road two blocks away from where the calls were made, when he was struct by a police vehicle.  The officers claim that their lights and sirens were on, but many witnesses claim that they didn’t hear any sirens.

A police spokesman said that they were conducting an internal investigation, but gave very little insight into who the man was or why the officer was distracted.

“It’s very unusual for someone to be lying in the street here,LAPD Sgt. Andy Neiman told KTLA News. “We don’t know if this is a case of mental illness or if this individual was under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. Certainly all that will be part of the investigation and hopefully we will find that out.”

Oddly enough, just last month a similar incident occurred in Tacoma, Washington, in which a police officer ran slowly over a man lying in the road.
