California Police Depts Refuse to Enforce Newsom's Tyrannical Thanksgiving COVID Measures
Last month, California Governor Gavin Newsom made headlines for all the wrong reasons after releasing his office's requirements for Thanksgiving. The dictates were ostensibly put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19 but quickly got called out for their arbitrary and tyrannical nature.
Below is a summary of the Governor's orders for a "safe" Thanksgiving day celebration:
-Must be held outside;
-Guests may use bathroom inside if sanitized;
-Masks on while not eating;
-Singing “strongly discouraged;”
-Max of two hours together;
-6 feet *mandated* in all directions between all at guests at the table & otherwise.
-10 p.m. curfew
While some folks lauded Newsom for his tyranny as necessary to prevent the spread of the virus, they ended up with egg on their faces after the governor himself was caught breaking several of his office's own measures.
Recently, Newson was caught and exposed flouting his own ridiculous strictures on eating in restaurants -- not putting his mask back on between bites (yes, he really mandated this) -- while breaking the size limit on gatherings. When he was caught dining at one of the world's most expensive restaurants, he lied to the public and said the table was outside. But photos quickly surfaced, outing his lies.
After being caught in a steaming hot pile of hypocrisy, Newsom's credibility in dealing with the virus has been diminished to virtually non-existent. As a result, sheriff's and police departments in Southern California have come out noting that they will not be enforcing his tyranny.
"We’ve now heard from every Sheriff in our SoCal viewing area. San Bernardino, Orange, Ventura, & Riverside Counties will not actively enforce the curfew order. LA Sheriff will take a voluntary compliance/education first approach, will not make any arrests related to order," FOX LA's Bill Melugin

But it wasn't just the sheriff's department.

"We’ve heard from the Sheriffs, we are now starting to hear from from city police departments about the curfew. Ontario and Laguna Beach PDs say they will NOT actively enforce the order, seeking voluntary compliance. Costa Mesa and Irvine PDs WILL take part in enforcement," Melugin followed up.
The revolt has since gained traction and it is spreading outside of southern California.
Other sheriffs in Northern California, including Sacramento County, where the Governor now lives, are also refusing to enforce the curfew.
"In these challenging times, there is a great deal of fear, anxiety and uncertainty within the community," Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said in a statement. "I do not wish to compound those concerns by creating distrust and friction between residents and law enforcement."
"El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office deputies will not be determining compliance with, or enforcing the compliance of, any health order related to this curfew. The sheriff’s office will not prevent Thanksgiving activities, maximum occupancies, or mask wearing mandates at social gatherings within the County of El Dorado," a similar statement from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said.
"The Manteca Police Department will not arrest people for violating this order," the Manteca PD announced, adding, "Manteca Police Officers will NOT come to your home, stop your car, or interrogate your family based simply on this order."
The list of police and sheriffs departments openly defying the governor's orders continues to grow.
Now, Newsom is facing an existing recall effort, with a deadline of March 17, 2021 to collect 1,495,709 valid signatures. With his recent documented hypocrisy and arbitrary tyranny, this petition will likely reach its goal.
While police and sheriffs disobeying the governor by refusing to enforce his Thanksgiving tyranny is certainly a welcome gesture, it also exposes their selective approach to what they deem "constitutional."
Every single one of the departments mentioned above continue to enforce the unconstitutional war on drugs by kidnapping and caging people for possessing arbitrary substances deemed illegal by the state. Every single one of these departments mentioned above also continues the enforcement of arbitrary dictates for victimless crimes which target poor and minority communities.
Hopefully, as more people realize that the enforcement of victimless crimes comes from the same people who are showing their willingness to disobey other orders with which they disagree, they will pressure their police and sheriffs departments to uphold the rights of all citizens, not just the ones they agree with politically.
