“No more criminal traps if it’s legalized. I don’t have to buy from gang bangers shooting craps, if it’s legalized”

afromanNearly 15 years ago, Afroman released his classic song “Because I Got High,” and ever since it has been an anthem for marijuana smokers worldwide.

Ironically, the lyrics in the song painted a very negative picture of marijuana users, and was told from the perspective of a pothead who had their life ruined “because they got high.”

The story was told of a stoner who forgot to clean their room, failed school, got arrested, forgot to pay child support, and a number of other disasters, all thanks to their use of the cannabis plant.

For the most part, the millions of people who loved this song knew that every word of it was a complete joke, and according to many sources, that is how Afroman intended it, because after all, he was high when he wrote it.

Now years later, Afroman is watching the world change in ways that he could have never expected when he released his smash hit in 2000.  People everywhere are starting to learn that marijuana is not as harmful as they were led to believe, and actually has a number of beneficial uses.

To commemorate the changing times, Afroman released a “Positive Remix” for his classic track, where he speaks of cannabis as the cure for glaucoma, anxiety, and an alternative to harmful drugs and alcohol. In the remix, Afroman also calls attention to the black market violence that is caused by prohibition.

Check out the lyrics below:

I had problems with glaucoma, but then I got high
Smelled the cannabis aroma, and I got high
Glaucoma getting better and I know why
Because I got high, because I got high, because I got high

I used to smoke cigarettes, but then I got high
Getting tired and call it quits, but them I got high
I’m playing basketball and jogging and I know why
Because I got high, because I got high, because I got high

I used to drink beer and wine, but then I got high
I woke up feeling fine, because I got high
My hangover’s over and I know why
Because I got high, because I got high, because I got high

Anxiety attacks, but then I got high
I used to take Xanax, but then I got high
No more prescription pills and I know why
Because I got high, because I got high, because I got high

The state made revenue, because I got high
They built a school or two, because I got high
Now the state can fund drug treatment and I know why
Because I got high, because I got high, because I got high

No more criminal traps if it’s legalized
I don’t have to buy from gang bangers shooting craps, if it’s legalized
I can advocate with Weedmaps and I know why
It’s legalized, it’s legalized, it’s legalised
