Tear gas is a chemical weapon that stimulates the corneal nerves in the eyes to cause tears, pain, vomiting, and even blindness. Their use as chemical warfare agents is prohibited by various international treaties, such as the Geneva Protocol.
However, the international ban does not prevent the heavily militarized American police forces from deploying it on an increasingly more frequent scale.
The most recent victim in the irresponsible use of this chemical weapon is an 8-year-old child.
Huffington Post reporter Ryan Reilly, tweeted a video Sunday night that showed a distressed parent trying to relieve the pain inflicted on her 8-year-old son by police tear gas.
Reilly's colleague Amanda Terkel, posted this photograph of the same child:

This woman bringing her 8-year-old child around such a heavy police presence wasn't the best decision in the world for her to make. However, firing CS gas in the vicinity of children shows the callous disregard for the for the well-being of others by police.
Who exactly is being protected here?
The Free Thought Project reported over the weekend that the St. Louis County PD pulled its officers from Ferguson Market and allowed looters to have their way. The officers were told by commanders not to engage looters.
Luckily the protesters stepped up to the plate and began protecting local business from the lowlife thugs who would use this peaceful protest as a means to steal.
As of Monday morning, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon, has called in the national guard.
"Given these deliberate, coordinated and intensifying violent attacks on lives and property in Ferguson, I am directing the highly capable men and women of the Missouri National Guard ... in restoring peace and order to this community," he said in a statement.
Perhaps if the police were worried about the ones looting and enacting violence, instead of tear gassing children, and threatening journalists, Ferguson, Missouri would be a much more peaceful place right now.
Unfortunately, the only tactic which the state knows how to successfully employ in times of crisis, is that of force; which commonly manifests in the form of violent escalation. Even more unfortunate, are the predictable results of such irresponsible methodologies, more violence.
