WATCH: Cop Arrested After Being Pulled Over for Speeding Before Fleeing from Fellow Officer
Orlando, FL — Amidst the countless stories of officers of the law behaving as though they are above the very laws they enforce, an arresting narrative unfolded in Orlando. The incident, captured on body camera footage, paints an infuriating picture of an Orlando police officer, Alexander Shaouni, clearly believing he could evade the law's reach, only to be held accountable by a fellow law enforcement officer from the Seminole County Sheriff’s department.
On June 6, as most commuters were responsibly driving down the road, Shaouni decided he was not bound by the same restrictions. Blazing down a 45mph zone at an alarming 80mph, his marked patrol car, conspicuous yet devoid of emergency lights or sirens, was a glaring anomaly. A Seminole County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol observed Shaouni's blatant disregard for the rules he's tasked with enforcing, along with the safety of others on the road, and initiated a chase, reaching speeds of over 90mph to catch up with the rogue officer.
The irony of a cop driving 90mph in a 45mph zone to catch another cop driving 80mph, should not be overlooked.
What unfolded next, however, as shown in the bodycam footage, was a heated exchange that laid bare Shaouni's audacious assumption of being untouchable. When pulled over, Shaouni nonchalantly inquired why he was being stopped, to which the deputy responded by pointing out his excessive speed.

Unfazed, Shaouni gestured to his uniform and retorted, "What does it look like I am dressed for?" His blatant dismissal of the deputy's question about his identification, a standard procedure in such situations, was an open display of his apparent belief that he was above the law.
But in this instance, the law had the last word. Shaouni now faces charges of reckless driving, resisting an officer, and fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer with lights and sirens activated. Departmental officials have since relieved him of his duty, pending an internal review and the Seminole County Sheriff's criminal investigation.
The narrative that unfolded that day in Orlando goes against the common one in which law enforcement officers often evade accountability for their actions. It shows that there are, indeed, officers committed to upholding the law, even when it means acting against their own.
