Baghdad, Iraq — On Sunday, in a historic move, Iraq’s parliament voted to expel American troops from within their borders. The vote was passed unanimously as a move to expel any future death and destruction carried out by the United State’s proxy war with Iran taking place in Iraq. Instead of abiding by this sovereign country’s decision and bringing our troops home, however, President Donald Trump promised more acts of war through sanctions. Yes, sanctions are acts of war.

As TFTP reported last week, without any congressional authorization, president Trump ordered and carried out the assassination of one of the most powerful people in Iran, knowingly setting off what could amount to a new world war. Qassim Suleimani, the leader of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and the Qud Forces, was killed in Iraq “to protect U.S. personnel abroad,” according to the Pentagon. In reality, however, Trump’s decision would set off a series of chain reactions that has already resulted in the loss of American lives.

If we examine this situation without our patriotic blinders on and look at it from an outsider’s perspective, the aggressor in this situation becomes very clear. The U.S. military invaded and has subsequently occupied Iraq for nearly two decades in the name of “spreading democracy” and “fighting terrorism” but in reality, based entirely on lies. During this time, the US has killed countless civilians as well as individuals in paramilitary organizations in Iraq operating with the permission of Iraqi officials who were fighting terrorists. Then, the country — who has been “given democracy” for the last 17 years by the US military — democratically votes to kick the American military out of their country, and the United States refuses. Instead of leaving, like they were asked to do, the United States promises more war.

Who is the bad guy here? Is it the Iranians who were given permission to enter Iraq to help fight ISIS, by the Iraqi government? Is it the Iraqis, who’ve watched drone missiles rain down on their country for nearly two decades in a war started completely over lies? Or, is it the US war machine, invading and occupying countries without their permission and whose long history consists of overthrowing democratically elected leaders in the Middle East and leaving behind war ravaged hell states?

When a country asks you to get out, especially when it is costing taxpayers hundreds of billions, and costing US lives, you fucking leave. When you threaten sanctions — acts of war — when a country democratically votes to ask you to leave, you are now the bad guy.

Luckily, for now, it appears that at least some folks in the upper echelons of the military industrial complex agree with this sentiment. In a letter like we’ve never seen before, United States Marine Corps Brigadier General William H. Seely III, commanding general of Task Force Iraq, the U.S.-led military coalition against Islamic State, reportedly vowed to defy the president’s order to stay in Iraq.

In the letter on Monday, as reported by Reuters, the United States military wrote to Iraq saying it would pull out of the country and would be repositioning forces over the next few days and weeks.

“Sir, in deference to the sovereignty of the Republic of Iraq, and as requested by the Iraqi Parliament and the Prime Minister, CJTF-OIR will be repositioning forces over the course of the coming days and weeks to prepare for onward movement,” read the letter.

“We respect your sovereign decision to order our departure,” said the letter signed by Brigadier General Seely.

“During this time, there will be an increase in helicopter travel in and around the International Zone (IZ) of Baghdad,” it said.

The IZ is the Green Zone in Baghdad which is home to government buildings and foreign missions and heightened helicopter activity has already been observed though it is unclear if it is due to this letter.

Naturally, after the letter’s release, a Pentagon spokesman said he could not immediately confirm its authenticity. However, as of the writing of this article, General Seely has yet to come out saying he did not write it.

Whether or not the United States will actually leave Iraq is anyone’s guess. If history is any indicator, however, they will likely sweep this commander under the rug and double down on sanctions, inevitably escalating tensions, causing more death and suffering. All the while, the warmongers in Congress will continue to fund it, continue to send our brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, mothers and fathers off to die in a country so the politically elite can use the United States government to fund and support the special interests responsible for getting them re-elected.

“But this war is different!” “Iran really is a threat!” “We need to attack them!” If you are one of these folks who really believes that this time, despite lying to get us into nearly every single war in US history, is different, you’d do well to watch the video below and then read this article.
