In under 60 seconds, Jon Stewart lambasted the hypocrisy of GOP convention attendees and others who demand to ‘take their country back.’
To the people who feel they are “this country’s rightful owners,” Stewart delivered a caustic take-down:
“There’s only one problem with that: This country isn’t yours. You don’t own it. It never was. There is no ‘real’ America. You don’t own it.”
Though Donald Trump’s supporters — and those who believe in his fortress Wall around ringing the United States — might haughtily scoff at the notion the nation isn’t ‘theirs,’ Stewart proceeded to decimate the narrative any political party or group could claim the ‘property rights’ of conservative American exclusivity on a number of other ideas, as well.
“You don’t own patriotism; you don’t own Christianity; you sure as hell don’t own respect for the bravery and sacrifice of military, police, and firefighters.”
Stewart’s scathing rant came in response to the hate- and bigotry-fueled rhetoric and claims by speakers and attendees of the Republican National Convention which boastingly proffered the ideas of safety, pride, and more as uniquely the property of American conservative Republicans.
No matter your political affiliation — or lack thereof — politicians and lawmakers must not be permitted to legislate one way while lying to the public. To hold Republicans, Democrats, or any other party insiders accountable for their actions, publicly calling out their duplicitous bluff is an absolute imperative.
So, rather than simply railing at GOP hubris, Stewart keenly sliced through the heart of party leaders’ unabashed bullshit hypocrisy:
“Trust me. I saw a lot of people on the convention floor in Cleveland with their Blue Lives Matter rhetoric, who either remained silent or actively fought against the 9/11 First Responders Bill reauthorization — I see you, and I see you’re bullshitting. I see it.”

Jon Stewart is no stranger to speaking out against government corruption. As the Free Thought Project has pointed out before, Stewart has fought for years to get the care and justice the 9-11 first responders deserve — in spite of the state railroading him at every corner.
