Los Angeles, Calif. – Hollywood megastar Jim Carrey took to Twitter to lay waste to California Gov. Jerry Brown, the day after Brown signed into law one of the most stringent immunization programs in the United States.

Carrey called Brown out as a “corporate fascist,” after Brown signed the controversial bill into law. The new law effectively gets rid of a family’s ability to claim a conscientious objection based in personal belief or on religious grounds, to receiving vaccinations, required for enrollment into public schools.

The superstar comedian tweeted that he isn’t anti-vaccine, but rather anti-thimerosal and anti-mercury. Carrey has been an activist on this issue since his relationship with Jenny McCarthy, who blamed her son’s autism on vaccines.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention refutes the claims made by Carrey, claiming that there is “no link between thimerosal-containing vaccines and autism, as well as no link between MMR vaccine and autism in children.”

The CDC claims no childhood vaccines distributed in the U.S. contain thimerosal or mercury in more than trace amounts. Carrey believes the CDC is complicit, and has a vested interest in claiming there is no link.

In a message to the California Senate, after signing the bill into law, Brown wrote,

“The science is clear that vaccines dramatically protect children against a number of infectious and dangerous diseases. While it’s true that no medical intervention is without risk, the evidence shows that immunization powerfully benefits and protects the community.”

California now joins West Virginia and Mississippi as the only states without a personal-belief exemption for vaccines, according to The Associated Press.

Many opposed to the new law believe that the government is overstepping its bounds by disallowing a parent from deciding what is right for their own child.

If a parent chooses to not vaccinate their child, their child will not be allowed to attend public or private school, and will have to either be home-schooled, attend a multifamily private home-school, or use public school independent study, according to the new law.

Should parents that have a sincerely held religious belief against vaccinating their child truly be forced violate their faith for their child to be able to get a public education?
