Trenton, NJ — As the Free Thought Project has often asserted, being entirely innocent is no defense against the American police state. Now, a new video out of New Jersey shared with TFTP, shows that being unconscious and unresponsive is also no defense against police brutality.

In the video—taken by a woman who wishes to remain anonymous for obvious reasons—a New Jersey Transit police officer is seen savagely attacking a seemingly unconscious man.

As the video shows, the officer is seen dragging the limp body of the man around. The man’s inability to move or react to the officer seems to infuriate him even more, so the officer begins smashing him into the ground.

As the officer attacks the unresponsive man, he yells, “get up and get out now” repeatedly, while using profanities.

Around the 25 second mark into the video, the man is completely unresponsive as the officer makes a phone call. After he finished the call, the officer resumed yelling at the unconscious man.

He’s then seen punching the unconscious man, whose head was on the ground partially inside his sweatshirt.

“There was no resisting. He wasn’t even speaking,” said the anonymous woman who took the video.

“The unresponsive man was accosted and had his face brutally slammed into the pavement for no other apparent reason that the power trip of the Transit police officer,” the caption attached to the original video said. “There was no resistance at all.”

Exactly why the officer approached the man is unclear as the Transit police have not released any details about an arrest.

“I don’t know if anything occurred. I’m not speculating that anything did. I can only attest to what I saw. And what I saw wasn’t warranted,” said the woman.

What’s more, the woman’s phone battery died and she did not catch the end of the situation.

“After my phone died it continued to happen. The berating. Probably another five minutes. Dragging him on the cement and dragging his face on the ground,” she said, adding that she felt compelled to release the video.

“I was torn on what to do. I thought this was the best thing, so that going forward this might not happen to someone else,” she said of putting the video out.

Another witness, who watched the brutality unfold, told local media that he said there was absolutely no reason for this abuse.

“I don’t give a doggone if the folks are homeless or whatever they are. There is no need for them to have to go through that abuse,” said commuter Dave Thompson of Barrington.

According to the NJ Transit police, officials are now investigating the officer who they confirmed is employed with their department. The officer involved has been suspended, according to police.

As ABC 6 reports, a police spokesperson, citing the ongoing investigation, said it would not be appropriate to say if the man seen with the officer was taken into custody, if the officer had a working body cam, or what sparked the incident captured on the video.

“The matter is currently under investigation with New Jersey Transit Police Department’s Internal Affairs. The officer has been placed on administrative suspension pending the results of that investigation,” the department’s statement read on Monday.

Below is a disturbing example of what being an unresponsive homeless person can look like in a police state.
