President Trump issued his first official pardon on Friday, sparing former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was found guilty of criminal contempt after he violated a court order in a racial profiling case by continuing to target illegal immigrants.

While both Trump and many of his supporters have applauded Arpaio, who refers to himself as “America’s toughest sheriff,” there is one thing he is not always tough on—pedophiles.

In fact, according to a report from the Associated Press in December 2011, Airpaio’s office failed to investigate more than 400 sex-crimes” that were reported in Maricopa County from 2005 to 2007, “including dozens of alleged child molestations—that were inadequately investigated and in some instances were not worked at all.”

The report cited current and former police officers familiar with the cases who claimed that victims of the horrific crimes were as young as 2 years old. In El Mirage, the city where Arpaio’s office was providing contract police services, officials reportedly discovered at least 32 reported child molestations, and even though suspects were known in all but six cases, Arpaio “failed to follow through.”

While Arpaio made headlines for his infamous Tent City Jail, a camp in which nearly 1,000 illegal immigrants were forced to live outdoors in Arizona’s sweltering 120-degree heat, he did not make headlines for his treatment of the children of illegal immigrants. According to the officers who worked with him, many of those children were victims of sex crimes, which Arpaio ignored, as he let their American citizen predators run free.

After Arpaio’s contract ended, and his office was no longer required to provide police services for El Mirage, Detective Jerry Laird told the AP he found that an overwhelming majority of the cases he received from the office hadn’t been worked, which meant that there were no follow-up reports, no collection of additional forensic evidence and zero effort made after the initial report of the crime was taken.”

While some of the cases Arpaio’s office neglected were turned over to prosecutors, the report noted that the El Mirage Police Department claimed “most were no longer viable—evidence dating as far back as 2006 had grown cold or wasn’t collected in the first place, victims had either moved away or otherwise moved on.

Arpaio held a news conference in response to the 2011 report, in which he said, “If there were any victims, I apologize to those victims.”

As The Free Thought Project has reported, a number of cases involving pedophiles have come to light under the Trump Administration, such as a pedophile ring investigation that resulted over 900 arrests in May, and a sex-trafficking investigation that resulted in over 1,000 arrests earlier this month. This raises the question—why aren’t Arpaio and other members of his office being held to the same standards?

Joe Arpaio’s harsh treatment towards illegal immigrants has stirred up controversy, but his outright neglect of children who are victims of sex crimes seems to have slipped under the radar.

Children have no control over which country they are born in, and they are the most vulnerable to predators. If a child is a victim of a sex crime, the question of whether the predators are “illegal aliens” or “legal American citizens” should not keep officials like Sheriff Arpaio from holding them accountable for their actions, and he should be held accountable for his failure to do so.

  1. I’m sure this little “trend” didn’t go unnoticed by local predators, which probably greatly INCREASED the chances of an “illegal” child being molested by a citizen who felt confident in his own impunity. It’s the same rationale that rapists and serial killers use when they target prostitutes – society hates them so much, they’re all but gleeful when someone comes along and validates that hatred with cruelty of their own.

  2. Those who protect pedophiles do for one reason.. they are pedophiles themselves, and these people know something about him, provide him with children, etc… Trump, who no ones wants to talk about has been charged with the rape of a thirteen year old, and used to fly to Epsteins private island of young sex slaves… pardons a pedophile. In intelligence I met these people, and they are above the law. This is why they are ignored. I was above the law and met them for awhile in intelligence and their amorality knows no end. Period.

  3. Doing the illegals’ and their advocates’ work for them, are you? Illegal immigration is the greatest national security and cultural threat that our nation has ever faced. The sheriff is on the right side of that issue and that is all that matters.

    • Your crazy immigrants have been flooding our borders since the1900s and those fleeing US military operations that destroy their country’s governments are looking for the country that destroyed theirs with military coupes to unseat their country’s leaders to offer safe haven from their destruction only to have scumbags like you who think America only belongs to you it doesn’t share the land or get the hell out you greedy UN American loser.

      • Immigrants have always been welcomed here but they must come in by the lawful routes. Our families did it through Ellis Island. They also became Americans, not little enclaves of 3rd world countries. They learned the language , followed the law and taught their children to honor and respect our flag and the freedoms it represents. There is almost no country ON EARTH that hasn’t been conquered by another people who claimed it as their own so why single out the US?

    • LOL looks like you’ve got a bad case of FOX brain-rot gong on!
Immigrants–legal OR undocumented have a LOWER crime rate that native-born Americans do! (Source: FBI Nat./Crime Statistics)

  4. Why does this come up only now? Where are the links to all the articles when this first was an outrage? Where’s the dereliction of duty case against Arpaio that might have gotten these injured children assistance, counseling, compensation?

Arizona knew this pardon was coming even before Trump’s arrival Aug 22nd; and it is only now, Aug 27th, we see this information surfacing (or re-surfacing, where are those articles, reports/complaints?).

We know if President Trump knew this and found it to be true, there would have been no pardon.

    • Those blue words in the story, those are called hyperlinks, that link to information you asked for, the information was out at the time, people just choose to ignore it.

    • NO we DON’T know “if Trump knew this, there would have been no pardon”. NOTHING in Trump’s history shows the slightest bit of compassion towards anyone (except MAYBE his children).

  5. These men are pure stupid evil, & seem to actually believe their own political nonsense, like their zealous apologists, always do….
(Pedophilia was always popular in the espionage industry, as a common, & predictable, & pathetic predilection, amongst the power obsessed, as well as an obvious means of blackmail)…..

  6. A news article released in 2011 shows over 400 cases not properly handled by this department. Why did the FBI not open a corruption case in 2011? It is their job to investigate corruption and misconduct by government employees, and sheriffs and police officers fall into that category. No case involving corrupt police, politicians, sheriffs, etc. should ever be investigated locally. We don’t know how far the corruption might have spread until after the investigation is over, so we don’t know if the local police or prosecutors are ‘on the take’ or not. The Federal government should be investigating this case and all others like it. Anyone found guilty should be charged with the crime, as well as charged with misconduct because of his position. That person should also never be permitted to work in law enforcement or any other position of public authority, since he has already proved he cannot be trusted.

  7. The real truth is there are about 400,000 untested rape kits in the custody of the police, throughout the US. I never agreed with many of Shurf Joe Arpaio’s ideas, but his work on keeping lawbreaking illegal aliens out of Arizona was for the good of American citizens.

  8. I read the AP article, and it looks like supervisors — one accused of sexual harassment — made the decision NOT to investigate these crimes.

I’m not sure if this should be put on Sheriff Joe as he may not have been aware at all.

  9. There is more to it than whats being told here. I would like to get all the details. Enough with propaganda journalism on both sides!
