Alachua County, FL — Nothing exposes the revenue collecting nature of the state quite like police officers pulling over citizens and issuing them fines for not wearing their seat belts.
Seat belt ‘laws’ exhibit the tyrannical nature of government and illustrate the lengths to which the state will go to separate the citizen from their wealth.
It takes a person incapable of questioning morality versus legality to approach otherwise entirely innocent individuals and target them for extortion via fines issued for failure to comply with arbitrary decrees for victimless ‘crimes.’
Bob Tuskin, former radio host for Free Thought Project Radio, and co-founder of the Free Your Mind conference, happened to come across one of these individuals in Alachua County, Florida.
Despite Tuskin being given a citation, he was able to perhaps plant a seed of knowledge in this cop’s head, that may one day lead to him questioning the morality of policing for profit. Even if he did not reach the deputy, the subsequent video makes for a fine lesson in road piracy.
Deputy McCoy with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Department targetted Tuskin for a quick source of revenue this week after he spotted him without his seat belt on.
Tuskin tells the Free Thought Project that he always wears his seat belt, however, it had recently broken. Tuskin also told deputy McCoy that his seat belt was broken, but this had no effect on the deputy.
As the stop begins, the officer, oblivious to the benefits of hemp, engages with Tuskin about the nature of his shirt which says, “Hemp, Not Trees.” This simple statement merely notes the effectiveness of growing hemp for products that are currently produced with trees.
Apparently, however, this deputy must have thought that it implied something illegal, or he would not have even brought it up.
When asked by Tuskin if he knows what hemp is, the confused deputy replied, “No.”
As the stop continues, the deputy unquestioningly proceeds to write the ticket. He tells Tuskin, “I am issuing you a citation for not wearing your seat belt. It is for $109.”
For causing zero harm, this innocent person was told that he now owes the state $109. If he refuses to pay that $109 a warrant will be issued for his arrest, and he will be kidnapped and thrown in a cage for failure to pay it. If he resisted said kidnapping, he would be beaten or even killed — and police departments across the Land of the Free have the audacity to call this extortion backed up by threats of violence — ‘public service.’
After the deputy heroically protects society from the dangers of a man with a broken seat belt, Tuskin proceeds to school him.
“Philosophically speaking,” Tuskin begins, “it was clearly a victimless crime. There was no speeding where I was putting somebody else in jeopardy. There was no blowing a red [sic] light, where I could potentially crash and hurt a fellow citizen. I was simply choosing not to wear a seat belt.”
At this point, the officer is decidedly becoming uncomfortable as he hears the truth of his actions spelled out in front of him.
“You took an oath to the Constitution of the United States. Do you feel that this is perhaps a breach (to that oath) on your behalf of a citizen’s own sovereignty to choose what they do with his or her own life?” asks Tuskin.
Just as soon as the uncomfortable feeling subsided in the officer, the reassurance of his order following nature kicked in, and he answered Tuskin’s question as if it were hard-wired into him.
“You’re violating the law, Florida state statute,” recites the deputy. “Therefore, there are consequences for that, which would be what I am issuing you today.”
“Right,” Tuskin replies. “But if I am not harming anybody, where do you see the law being a just law? How do you see, philosophically speaking, that law having merit?”
“You’re violating the law,” replies the deputy again in a robotic fashion indicative to unquestioning order followers.
As soon as his paradigm was threatened by such logic and reason, the officer quickly ended the conversation, claiming that he has to respond to other calls. However, as Tuskin pointed out toward the end of the exchange, he pulled him over for not wearing a seat belt, apparently that was more important than the “other calls,” as was the conversation about the nature of Tuskin’s hemp shirt.
What the video below illustrates is the callous nature of the individuals who make up the state and enforce its immoral laws. It also demonstrates the power of information. Because Bob Tuskin chose to question the arbitrary authority of a man in a uniform with a shiny badge extorting him, others will wake up to the corrupt and often cruel tendencies of government. Please share this video with others to expose the ridiculous nature of policing for profit.
In an interview with the Free Thought Project, Tuskin says that after McCoy pulled out of the parking lot, he failed to use his turn signal. Tuskin then attempted to pull the deputy over for breaking one of the laws he is so concerned with upholding. However, the deputy refused. Unfortunately, in the heat of the moment, Tuskin thought he hit record when he only took a photo. So, Tuskin attempting to pull over the deputy was not recorded. There is only the still photo seen below.
